Laura McNutt

Laura, 20 is currently a third-year Optometry student at Ulster University and a former pupil of Thornhill College, where she sang in the school choir. 


Laura began training as a classical singer at the age of 9, achieving grade 8 at 15. During this time, Laura was a soprano with the Ulster Youth Choir and National Youth Choir of Great Britain. At the age of 12, Laura performed in The Royal Albert Hall having been selected as the only girl in Northern Ireland to secure a place in NYCGB where they performed Monteverdi’s Vespers with Ben Parry. 

In 2013, Laura received the award for “Inspirational Young Talent” from the Derry Journal awards in recognition of her hard work. Laura then achieved a diploma in performance at the age of 17. 

She is part of a local chamber choir called Codetta. Being part of Codetta, Laura has sung at the BBC proms with Lesley Garrett, performed alongside Josh Groban and recorded the “Lost Lives” film soundtrack for the BBC, to name a few.
