Ryan Johnston
Ryan has been playing piano since he was 9 and has gone onto achieve Grade 8 Piano with distinction. He is getting ready to begin his final year of his Bachelor’s of Music degree at Ulster University.
Last year Ryan became the first student to go on Enterprise Placement Year as part of his Music degree. He completed his Enterprise Placement Year with distinction. For his music degree he taught piano and music theory privately in both the Belfast and Derry area. As well as doing piano performances at places such as the Titanic Hotel in Belfast and piano accompaniment for people’s music exams.
Ryan has studied piano under Alina Horvath of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and piano performance under concert pianist Santa Ignace.
Ryan is also creating his own musicianship course for those who want it in the Belfast area. His musicianship course will include piano, music theory, exam preparation and music technology 1-1. Ryan also sees it important to give back to the community, so he currently teaches piano to people seeking sanctuary in Northern Ireland through an arts organization called Beyond Skin.
Ryan also teaches at Grosvenor Grammar School piano afterschool. Ryan was also a student at Grosvenor Grammar School when he studied there as a GCSE Music student. Before studying at Ulster University, he achieved Grade A on his HND Music Course in Ayrshire, Scotland at Ayrshire College.
Ryan is very excited about beginning teaching at St Columb’s School of Music this year and can’t wait to meet all his pupils.
