Neil Burns
Neil Burns is a Derry-based composer, songwriter, pianist and producer. He has a PhD in composition (UU) and a wealth of experience across genres. An eclectic portfolio of original work draws on experimental pop, jazz, Classical, folk and choral influences. His latest album, Golden Sunsets, supported by the ACNI and launched at Brilliant Corners festival (Moving On Music) earlier this year, explores songwriting through a nostalgic, jazz and chamber music lens, featuring contributions from the Henry Girls and Meilana Gillard. Closely involved in choral music for many years, he has been co-director of the Inishowen Gospel Choir since 2010 and was recently commissioned to arrange songs for the Inishowen Traditional Choir. A frequent collaborator and accompanist, he works closely with jazz vocalist Victoria Geelan, has composed for theatre (Stage Beyond), is active in music outreach (Live Music Now, Music Kin), and as a choral accompanist and instrumental tutor in the city and beyond.
