St. Columb's Cathedral Choir

The choirs of St Columb’s Cathedral have been at the heart of music-making in Derry-Londonderry for generations. As one of the city’s oldest and most cherished musical institutions, the choirs continue a rich tradition of sacred choral music within the historic walls of the Cathedral – a place where music and community meet in a truly special way.

Led by Director of Music Nicky Morton and Assistant Organist Louis Fields, the Cathedral Choir plays a central role in the liturgical life of St Columb’s. The choir regularly leads worship at services, including weekly Choral Eucharists and Choral Evensongs, as well as at major festivals such as Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. Special events also bring together our Cathedral musicians with leading guest artists, choirs, and ensembles from across Ireland and beyond.

A unique feature of the Cathedral Choir is its close partnership with the St Columb’s School of Music. As a chorister, you will receive discounted lessons in singing or an instrument of your choice from the School’s highly regarded tutors. This ensures that every young singer not only grows as part of the Cathedral’s musical life but also develops wider musical skills that will serve them for years to come. The collaboration between choir and school creates a supportive pathway for young people to flourish as confident musicians, both vocally and instrumentally.

Music at St Columb’s is open to people of all faiths and none, and we are committed to ensuring that the Cathedral is a welcoming place where music can be enjoyed and shared by all. Through our partnership with the School of Music, we are nurturing the next generation of singers and instrumentalists, building on our proud heritage and inspiring a love of music at the heart of the city.
